Market Surveys: From the library to entrepreneurs

Market Surveys: Start Here

From the library to entrepreneurs

Entrepreneurs, researchers, and students at the Technion are often required to search for business data in order to fully understand the market, identify competitors, examine existing technologies, and review recently registered patents. Many begin with a simple Google search, but quickly discover that the picture is incomplete, sources are not always up to date, and access to reports and data often requires expensive subscriptions. This is exactly where the library’s services come in.

  • PitchBook – An advanced financial database providing information on private and public companies, investors and deals, as well as market comparisons by sector, technology, and geographic activity.
  • Nexis Uni – Offers access to news, professional journals, business reports, legal information, and profiles of companies and key individuals.
  • BCC Research – Provides comprehensive market reports, technology forecasts, and trend analyses in science and engineering fields.
  • PatBase – The world’s largest patent database. Enables searching by keywords, codes, countries, and patent owners, and helps to identify innovation and potential competitors.

In our training sessions, we explain how to search for companies by field, product, or technology; how to identify competitors; how to examine investments in specific domains; and how to locate patents that have not yet been published in academic articles. On our market research information page, we have compiled all the relevant information—especially the first steps in the search process:

  • What should you do when you have an idea?
  • What should you check at the initial stage?
  • Where can you find relevant information?
  • How can you continue analyzing the market in an efficient and comprehensive way?

The page also includes tips on combining free sources with professional databases to ensure the most thorough search possible.
The Reference & Information Department team supports the Technion community and offers personalized training in a variety of topics:

  • Locating articles and patents
  • Support for open access publishing
  • Tools for reference management
  • Research evaluation
  • Business information
  • Using AI in academic context
