News and Updates from Leading Academic Databases
WOS, Engineering Village and Pubmed News & Updates
Web of Science
Web of Science (WOS) is one of the most important databases in the academic world.
- The interface continues to evolve, with new capabilities that enhance the user search experience. The latest update provides access to the full text directly from the search results page. This improvement makes full-text access more convenient and reduces the number of steps required to reach it.
- The database is continuously updated, with journals being added and removed as part of maintaining its quality and reliability.
- As part of upholding its high quality standards, the journal “Science of The Total Environment” has recently been removed from the database. Articles published from Volume 954 (December 2024) onward are not indexed in the database and will not be added retroactively in the future.

Among the recent improvements in Web of Science are changes to the researcher profile display:
Next to each publication listed in a researcher’s profile, a note now indicates the type of document (e.g., Article, Review, Conference Paper, etc.), without needing to open the full record.
Icons have been added to the list of publications in the researcher profile, highlighting key features of each item:
🔥 Hot Paper – a paper that has received a high number of citations in a short time
⭐ Highly Cited Paper – a paper with a high citation count relative to others in its field
📖 Open Access – an openly accessible publication
⏱ Early Access – a publication available in the database prior to formal publication
📊 Associated Data – indicates that the database includes files related to the article
Engineering Village
Engineering Village is an information platform for searching and analyzing engineering literature. It includes leading databases such as Compendex, Inspec, and others, and enables users to locate articles, conference proceedings, patents, and additional resources, alongside tools for identifying research trends and collaborations.
Recent updates:
- Expanded content coverage, including the integration of preprints and patents, as well as increased coverage of engineering conferences and open access sources.
- Improvements to the Inspec Analytics tool, enabling advanced trend analysis:
- Identification of emerging research areas
- Leading countries in specific fields
- Mapping connections between academic research and patents
PubMed Central / PubMed
PubMed is a central database in the fields of medicine and life sciences, operated by the National Library of Medicine (NLM).
Significant updates were introduced during 2025–2026:
- Enhanced full-text search capabilities, improving both functionality and accuracy, including beta features with advanced filtering options.
- Annual updates to the MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) system, including the addition of hundreds of new terms and revisions to existing ones—impacting search capabilities and improving the precision of knowledge representation.
