Open Access Publishing – Information and Assistance
The libraries offer professional assistance with the process of OA publishing
Many funders (financial sponsors) require Open Access (OA) publishing as part of their grants’ conditions.
The Technion researchers aim for excellence, and since there are cost considerations to OA, the libraries offer professional assistance with the process.
What is OA?
Open Access is an academic publishing mechanism, in which research products are downloadable for free. There are several ways to publish in OA, including Gold Open Access (Fully gold open access, or hybrid OA), Green OA, or an institutional OA repository.
Why publish in Open Access?
Many funders (financial sponsors) require Open Access (OA) publishing as part of their grants’ conditions. OA publications also have a higher impact (more citations) since OA provides more visibility for the research. Another benefit to OA is its scientific value: sharing your research results can help science reach its full potential since prices are no longer an obstacle.
How can the libraries assist?
- Help with choosing the right journal for OA publishing
- Recognizing and avoiding “predatory” journals
- Recommendations on OA depositories (Zenodo)
- Information regarding “Horizon Europe” requirements
- Copyrights considerations in OA
- Referring to publishers that offer discounts to the Technion researchers
