Citation Styles Guide
A citation style is the standard method when referencing resources and bibliography materials. Here are some tips to help you choose the proper citation style for when preparing your work for publication:
Which citation style to use, and when? Here are some useful tips:
- Consult an academic advisor.
- Check the required citation style of the relevant journals– each journal has its own required citation style. If you are interested in publishing in a specific journal, look for the required citation style under the various links of “Information for authors”.
- Find a proper citation style by categories (field of research etc.) in the Zotero Repository– a database that includes over 8100 citation styles. All styles are written according to the Citation Style Language so that the files created on Zotero can be loaded into any reference management software (such as Mendeley).
- Find a proper citation style by the style name or by a Mendeley example using citation style language (CSL) editor – all you have to do is copy-and-paste your preferred citation style (from an existing essay), and the editor will recognize which citation style it is!
