Guide to Listing Academic Affiliation in Publications

Bibliographic databases such as Scopus and Web of Science are central not only to academic research but also to shaping global university rankings (e.g., Shanghai, THE), which influence the Technion’s international reputation. In addition, accurate attribution of publications in these databases is essential for Technion’s reporting to VATAT (the Planning and Budgeting Committee of the Council for Higher Education in Israel), which affects institutional funding. Therefore, it is essential that all researchers use consistent formatting of their affiliation when submitting publications. Adhering to these guidelines supports the Technion’s standing, recognition, and funding.

A COMPLETE EXAMPLE OF THE CORRECT AFFILIATION:

Yael Smith, Technion Israel Institute of Technology, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering,

Technion City, Haifa 3200003, Israel; E-mail: ysmith@technion.ac.il

The order of organizational levels (University, Faculty, Research Institute/Center, etc.)

The order of organizational levels may vary depending on the publisher’s guidelines. If no specific instructions are provided, please begin with the highest level:

  • Full main institution name (mandatory)
  • Faculty name (mandatory)
  • Research institute/center name (if relevant)
  • Laboratory name (if relevant)
  • Campus address
  • Country
Primary institution name (mandatory) Faculty name (mandatory) Research institute/center name (if relevant) Laboratory name (if relevant) Campus address The country
Technion Israel Institute of Technology
Faculty of Mechanical Engineering
Material Mechanics Center
Computational Fluid-Structure Interaction Laboratory
Technion City, Haifa 3200003
Israel

Some publisher submission platforms specify the order of affiliations. Regardless of the platform, it is essential to list the full name of the Technion and the full name of the faculty. Researchers must also ensure their affiliation is updated as Technion and include their institutional e-mail address both in the publication and on the publisher’s website.
For any questions, please contact the
library staff.

Publications should always be submitted using the up-to-date institutional e-mail address:

*Corresponding author.
E-mail address: ysmith@technion.ac.il

Tip: Always list the Technion as your primary affiliation and use your Technion institutional e-mail in profiles such as ORCID, Scopus, and ResearcherID. Managing these profiles properly increases the visibility of both you and the Technion. For help, contact the Technion Libraries or check the library’s Profiling & Identity guide.

Clinical faculty members

Clinical faculty members should list all affiliations individually. The Technion affiliation should be listed first, followed by the hospital affiliation. Example:

1. Technion Israel Institute of Technology, Rappaport Faculty of Medicine, Department of Immunology, Haifa 3109601, Israel

2. Rambam Health Care Campus, Department of Internal Medicine “B”, Haifa 3109601, Israel

Guidelines for Additional Researcher Groups
